PANEL: From Revolution to Evolution — How Emerging Media Empower Democracy

Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube may not be the reason for the wave of democratic revolution sweeping across Northern Africa and the Middle East, but it is certainly the platform for giving voice to a previously unheard public outcry. As part of International Week, the George Mason University Communication Department and the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy & Conflict Resolution (CRDC) are combining with Al Jazeera-English to present a timely panel discussion, “From Revolution to Evolution: How Emerging Media Empower Democracy” Monday April 11 from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Johnson Center Cinema.
Tony Burman, the Chief Strategic Advisor in the Americas for Al Jazeera-English, will join Communication Chair Dr. Gary Kreps and CRDC Director Dr. Marc Gopin on a panel moderated by the Communication Department’s Dr. Stephen Farnsworth to discuss the role of social media in conflict resolution and non-violent regime change.
